Eduroam (education roaming) is a wireless communications infrastructure used by the international academic community to aid mobility. It lets its users move between member institutions and enjoy a virtual work environment with internet connection, the services and resources of their home organization and the services and resources of the institution hosting them, all as transparently as possible. In practice, it is as though there were a vast shared wireless network, known as eduroam, that can be accessed from different points using the same settings and the same credentials (username and password).
All UOC users can connect to eduroam, as can anyone from the other member organizations. In the case of the UOC, this means anyone who is a Virtual Campus user.
- Internet connection when setting up.
- Operating system: Windows, Mac OS X, Android, iOS.
- Java compatibility (in the case of Windows and Mac OS X).
- Access the eduroam set-up URL for the UOC.
- The page will automatically detect the device and platform, and display the logo. Next click the Join Now button. One or two browser alerts may appear saying that a Java complement needs to be executed. Accept them.
- At this point, if you already have an eduroam network within the Wi-Fi signal range, you can continue to the next point. If not, download the client manually and, once the eduroam network is available, run it.
-
After a few seconds, the SecureW2 client will automatically run. It is a three-stage process:
- Enter your Campus username (including @uoc.edu) and password.
- The client will authenticate the user.
- The client will establish the connection on the eduroam network. This third step will only work if you have an eduroam network within the Wi-Fi signal range.
